Code E058, Vats System Fuel Enable Circuit: Notes

NOTE: Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.

Test Number 1) If vehicle will not crank with Code E058 stored, problem affects entire VATS system and is not isolated to fuel enable circuit. Refer to appropriate manual for VATS system diagnosis.

Test Number 2) ECM supplies battery voltage to circuit No. 229 which VATS decoder module pulses to ground when correct key resistance is recognized. Test ensures ECM is supplying battery voltage and circuit No. 229 is not open or shorted to ground.

Test Number 3) Checks PWM signal from VATS module. Since battery voltage supplied by ECM is pulsed to ground, voltage on circuit No. 229 should be around 6 volts.

Test Number 4) Checks for faulty ECM or intermittent condition by clearing Code E058. Since ECM ignores absence of fuel enable signal only when Code E058 is stored, vehicle should not start if problems present and Code E058 has been cleared.
