Password Learn Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Pontiac Grand Am, 1998 Oldsmobile Achieva, and 1998 Buick Skylark. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: If instrument cluster is replaced on vehicles with PASSLOCK system, vehicle may start and stall (long tamper mode). If this occurs, system must go through a long tamper mode cycle to relearn password.
  1. Attempt to start vehicle. If vehicle does not run, go to next step. If vehicle runs, ensure ANTI-THEFT indicator turns off after about 10 seconds. If ANTI-THEFT indicator does not operate as specified, locate and repair problem in anti-theft system. See ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM article.
  2. Ensure ANTI-THEFT indicator is flashing. Leave ignition switch in RUN position until indicator turns solid (about 10 minutes). Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Start vehicle and ensure system is operating properly.
