Data Line Fault: Aurora
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora and 1997 Buick Riviera. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition off. Ensure Tech 1 scan tester is properly connected to DLC connector terminal No. 1 and repair as necessary. If connection is okay, turn ignition on. Attempt to establish communications with IPC. If communications cannot be established, go to step 3). If communications can be established, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect IPC connector C2 and DIC connector. Check IPC connector C2 terminal C8 and DIC connector terminal A3 for good terminal contact and repair as necessary. If terminal contact is okay, reconnect connectors and measure resistance between DLC connector terminal No. 1 to DIC connector terminal A3. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, check for power and ground to DIC. If power and grounds are okay, replace DIC. If resistance is not 5 ohms or less, repair open circuit in wiring between IPC connector C2 terminal C8 to DIC connector terminal A3.
- If communications could not be established in step 1), turn ignition off. Disconnect IPC connector C2 and DIC connector. Measure resistance between DLC terminals No. 1 and 4. If tester displays infinite ohms, go to next step. If tester does not display infinite ohms, repair short in wiring between DLC connector terminal No. 1 and ground.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between DLC connector terminals No. 1 and 4. If no voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is present, turn ignition off. Repair short to voltage in wiring between DLC connector terminal No. 1 and IPC harness connector C2, terminal D8.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between DLC connector terminal No. 1 and IPC connector C2 terminal D8. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is not 5 ohms or less, repair open circuit between DLC terminal No. 1 and IPC connector C2, terminal D8.
- Reconnect IPC connector. Turn ignition on. Attempt to establish communication with IPC. If communications are established, go to next step. If communications are not established, turn ignition off. Check for power, ground, and good terminal contact at IPC connector C2, terminal D8. If circuits are okay, replace IPC.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect DIC. Turn ignition on. Attempt to establish communication with IPC. If communications are established, system is okay. If communications are not established, turn ignition off. Check for power, ground, and good terminal contact at DIC connector terminal A3. If circuits are okay, replace DIC.
