DTC B2739: Key-In-Ignition Fault: Testing

  1. Perform BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS. Go to next step.
  2. Check for all current BCM DTCs. If DTC B0608 is also set as current, go to DTC B0608: BCM POWER MALFUNCTION  . If DTC B0608 is not set, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Leave key inserted in ignition switch. Disconnect BCM connector C1. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and BCM connector terminal D1 (Light Green wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 50 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 50 ohms, go to step  6 .
  4. With DVOM connected as in previous step, remove key from ignition switch. Observe DVOM.If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, go to step  8 .
  5. Connect all disconnected components and connectors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition switch to LOCK, START then back to RUN position. Recheck for BCM DTCs. If DTC B2739 resets as current, go to step  13 . If DTC B2739 does not reset, go to step  14 .
  6. Disconnect ignition switch electrical connector. Connect test light between battery voltage and ignition switch connector terminal C2 terminal "E" (Black wire). See Figure . If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, go to step  9 .
  7. Using DVOM, measure resistance between BCM connector C1 terminal D1 and ignition switch connector C1 terminal "D" (Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to step  10 . If resistance is greater than 2 ohms, go to step  11 .
  8. With DVOM connected as in previous step, disconnect ignition switch electrical connectors. Observe DVOM. If continuity is not present, go to step  10 . If continuity is present, go to step  12 .
  9. Repair poor connection or open in Black wire between ignition switch and ground. After repairs, go to step  15 .
  10. Replace ignition lock cylinder. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article. After replacement, perform theft deterrent relearn procedures. See THEFT DETERRENT RELEARN  under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to step  15 .
  11. Repair poor connection or open in Light Green wire between ignition switch and BCM. After repairs, go to step  15 .
  12. Repair short to ground in Light Green wire between ignition switch and BCM. After repairs, go to step  15 .
  13. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform new BCM setup. See NEW BCM SETUP  under PROGRAMMING. After replacing BCM, go to step  15 .
  14. Symptom is not present at this time. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  for additional diagnostic information. After repairs, go to next step.
  15. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect all disconnected components and connectors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Recheck for BCM DTCs. If any DTCs reset as current, go to BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS. If DTCs do not reset as current, system is okay at this time.
