Installation Procedure
- Lubricate the inner tie rod (3) threads with a suitable chassis lubricant before installing the outer tie rod (2).
- Install the outer tie rods. Refer to TIE ROD END REPLACEMENT - OUTER .
- Install the power steering gear to the vehicle.NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
- Install the power steering gear mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to 110 N.m (81 lb ft).
- Remove the support from the power steering gear.
- Install the power steering hose assembly to the power steering gear.
- Install the power steering hose assembly to power steering gear retaining bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the power steering hose assembly to power steering gear retaining bolt to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
- Install the steering gear crossmember. Refer to POWER STEERING SYSTEM in Frame and Underbody.
- Connect the lower intermediate shaft to the power steering gear.
- Install the lower intermediate shaft retaining bolt to the power steering gear.
Tighten
Tighten the lower intermediate shaft pinch bolt to the power steering gear to 40 N.m (30 lb ft).
- Connect the outer tie rods to the steering knuckles.
- Install the outer tie rods to steering knuckles retaining nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the outer tie rods to steering knuckles retaining nuts to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).
- Install the tires and wheels. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to BLEEDING THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM .
- Adjust the front toe. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS & ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES in Wheel Alignment.
