Single Module Engine Controller (SMEC)
The SMEC contains circuits necessary to drive ignition coil, fuel injector and alternator field. It contains a 14-pin connector and a 60-pin connector. See Fig 1 . The SMEC is a digital computer containing a microprocessor. It receives input signals from various switches and sensors. It then computes the fuel injector pulse width, spark advance, ignition coil dwell, idle speed, purge, cooling fan start and alternator charge rate. The SMEC is located on the right inner fender panel.
