Brake Switch Sense Status Does Not Change On Scan Tool: Testing
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect brake switch connector. Inspect connector and clean or repair as necessary. Using DVOM, measure resistance between brake switch connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Tan wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Tan wire. Perform TEST VER-4A under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Disconnect PCM connector C2. Using DVOM, measure resistance of White/Pink wire between PCM connector C2 terminal No. 62 and brake switch terminal No. 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in White/Pink wire. Perform TEST VER-4A under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between brake switch terminal No. 1 (White/Pink wire) and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in White/Pink wire. Perform TEST VER-4A under VERIFICATION TESTS.NOTE: Ensure brake pedal is not depressed during next step.
- Using DVOM, measure resistance between brake switch terminals No. 1 and 2 (switch side). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance less than 5 ohms, replace brake switch. See BRAKE SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform TEST VER-4A under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-4A under VERIFICATION TESTS.
