Air Bag Control Module

The Air Bag Control Module (ACM) contains safing sensor and energy reserve capacitor. The safing sensor is located inside ACM. The module is mounted on tunnel/floor pan in front of gear shift lever and below center of instrument panel. See Figure . The safing sensor protects against accidental Air Bag deployment. The ACM monitors system to determine system readiness. The ACM will store sufficient energy to deploy Air Bags for up to one second after battery is disconnected. The ACM contains on-board diagnostics, and will illuminate Air Bag warning lamp in cluster when a fault is detected. The warning equipment is tested for six to eight seconds every time vehicle is started.
