Crank Angle Sensor Signal

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 34 other vehicles, including the 1991 Pontiac Sunbird, 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix, 1991 Pontiac Grand Am, 1991 Pontiac Firebird, and 1991 Pontiac Bonneville. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Set DVOM on the 2-volt AC scale. Connect voltmeter leads to crank angle sensor installed in side of engine block. On 2.5L models it will be necessary to remove ignition module. Crank engine and observe voltmeter reading. Crank angle sensor should generate a voltage signal of about .05 volt at slow cranking speed to greater than .1 volt (100 mV) at high cranking speed.
