Preliminary Tests

Disconnect battery negative cable. Remove starter from vehicle. Ensure pinion moves freely on screw shaft. Ensure armature rotates freely by prying pinion with a screwdriver. If armature does not turn freely, disassemble motor. If armature rotates freely, perform STARTER NO-LOAD TEST  before disassembly.
