Preliminary Tests

Disconnect battery negative cable. Remove starter from vehicle. Check pinion for free movement on shaft. Check armature for free rotation by prying pinion with a screwdriver. If armature does not turn freely, disassemble motor. If armature rotates freely, perform STARTER NO-LOAD TEST  before disassembly.
