Verifying Correct Key Code

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird, 2002 Chevrolet Camaro, 2001 Pontiac Firebird, and 2001 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Lost or broken keys must be replaced with a key that has proper resistance value. To determine resistance value or code, insert key into PASS-Key(R) II VATS Interrogator (J35628-A) and read key code. If PASS-Key(R) II VATS Interrogator (J35628-A) is not available, key code can be determined by original key knock outs, or code sticker located on steering column ignition lock cylinder. Use key blank matching this key code and cut it to match original.

NOTE: DO NOT disconnect Yellow 2-pin SIR connector when determining key code.
