Diagnostic Aids

  1. Conditions that may cause intermittent operation of BCM, but will not set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) include: power interruption to BCM, battery voltage to components out of range (normal voltage is 9-16 volts), or loose or damaged ground(s).
  2. If problem is intermittent, perform a thorough test drive to try to repeat fault condition. Intermittent problems are usually caused by improper or poor connections, damaged or backed-out terminals, wire chafing or connector damage.
  3. If ignition switch is turned to ON position while BCM is disconnected, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will store PCM DTC P1626. After BCM diagnostics and repair have been completed, diagnose PCM DTCs. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTIC article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
