Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 GMC Sierra, 2004 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2004 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the leaf spring assembly to the vehicle.

  2. Install the front spring hanger bracket bolt.
  3. Install the front spring hanger bracket nut.

  5. Install the rear spring hanger bracket bolt.
  6. Install the rear spring hanger bracket nut.
  7. IMPORTANT: Do not reuse the U-bolts.

  8. Install the spring spacer.
  9. Install the U-bolts.
  10. Install the anchor plate.
  11. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  12. Install the U-bolt nuts.

    Tighten: 

    • For 15 series without rear wheel steering tighten the U-bolt nuts to 72 N.m (53 lb ft).
    • For all 15 series with rear wheel steering and 15HD/25/35/36 series tighten the U-bolts to 150 N.m (110 lb ft )
    • Tighten the front hanger bracket nut to 150 N.m (110 lb ft).
    • Tighten the rear hanger bracket nut to 95 N.m (70 lb ft).

  13. Install the fuel tank for left side applications. Refer toFuel Tank Replacement (Pickup) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Pickup - 5.3L (L59) Engine) or Fuel Tank Replacement (1500 Crew Cab) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Cab/Chassis - Front) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Cab/Chassis - Rear) in Engine Controls - 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L; or Fuel Tank Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3L; or Fuel Tank Replacement (Pickup) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Cab/Chassis - Front) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Cab/Chassis - Rear) in Engine Controls - 6.6L; or Fuel Tank Replacement (Pickup) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Cab/Chassis - Front) or Fuel Tank Replacement (Cab/Chassis - Rear) in Engine Controls - 8.1L.
  14. Install the trailer hitch, if equipped. Refer to Trailer Hitch Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  15. Remove the rear axle support.
  16. Lower the vehicle.
