Removal & Installation (2.2L)

- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Locate PCM. See PCM LOCATION table. Remove the left closeout/insulator (kick) panel. Push down on the locking tab, and pull up on the release lever to disconnect PCM harness connectors. Depress the PCM locking tab. See Fig 1 . Slide the PCM up and out from the PCM bracket.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. The replacement PCM must be reprogrammed and the Crankshaft Position (CKP) system variation learn procedure must be performed. See PROGRAMMING in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 2.2L ALERO, CAVALIER, GRAND AM & SUNFIRE - GASOLINE article. The replacement PCM will not allow Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump operation until a total of 10 miles have accumulated.
CAUTION:
Do not touch the PCM connector pins or soldered components on the circuit board in order to prevent possible Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) damage. Do not remove the integrated circuit boards from the carrier.
