Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 GMC Sierra, 2004 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2004 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the ECM.

    Ensure that the mounting tabs are engaged.

  2. Secure the spring latch to the ECM.

  4. Connect the ECM electrical connectors (3).
  5. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  6. Tighten the ECM electrical connector bolts (2).

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 8 N.m (71 lb in).

  8. Install the ECM cover.

  10. If equipped with the Allison transmission RPO M74, install the engine harness clip to the ECM cover.

  12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Single Battery) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Auxiliary Battery) in Engine Electrical.
  13. If a NEW ECM was installed, program the ECM. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) in Programming.
