Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 GMC Sierra, 2004 GMC Cab & Chassis Sierra, 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2004 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If necessary, install the FICM bracket.

  2. If necessary, install the FICM bracket bolts.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  4. If necessary, install the fuel line and engine harness clips to the FICM bracket.
  5. If necessary, install the oil level indicator tube bracket bolt to the FICM bracket.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 21 N.m (15 lb ft).

    IMPORTANT: Ensure that the insulators do not get knocked off when installing the FICM to the bracket.
  7. Install the FICM with insulators.
  8. Install the FICM bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 20 N.m (14 lb ft).

  10. Lubricate the NEW eyebolt washers with diesel fuel prior to installing.
  11. Install the NEW eyebolt washers to the banjo fittings.
  12. Install the NEW fuel line eyebolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 34 N.m (25 lb ft).

  14. Connect the FICM electrical connectors.

    Slide the retainers in to engage the connectors.

  15. Install a NEW tie strap attaching the harness to the bracket.
  16. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Single Battery) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Auxiliary Battery) in Engine Electrical.
  17. Install the fuel fill cap.
  18. Prime the fuel system. Refer to Fuel System Priming .
  19. Start the engine. If the engine stalls, repeat the above step.
  20. Once the engine starts, inspect for fuel leaks.
