HVAC Module Assembly: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
NOTE: Tools Required: Hose Clamp Pliers (J-38185).
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Recover the refrigerant. See RECOVERY, EVACUATION & RECHARGING in GENERAL SERVICING PROCEDURES article in GENERAL SERVICING. Drain the engine coolant. Use the Hose Clamp Pliers to reposition the inlet heater hose from the heater core. See Figure. Remove the inlet heater hose from the heater core.
  2. Use the Hose Clamp Pliers to reposition the outlet heater hose from the heater core. Remove the outlet heater hose from the heater core. Raise the vehicle. Remove the evaporator hose from the evaporator. Remove the drain tube elbow from the evaporator block heater case plate. See Figure.
  3. Remove the nuts holding the heater case plate for the heater pipes. See Figure. Remove the heater case plate and the seals for the heater pipes. Remove the nuts holding the heater case plate for the evaporator block. Remove the heater case plate and seal for the evaporator block.
  4. Remove the nut for the HVAC module assembly bracket. See Figure. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly from the vehicle. Release the under hood electrical center and position aside. Loosen the steering column brace bolts behind the under hood electrical center. Remove the instrument panel carrier.
  6. Remove the bolt from the bracket joining the cross vehicle beam to the HVAC module. Release the body control module from the cross vehicle beam. Remove HVAC duct work from the cross vehicle beam. Remove the 2 remaining bolts for the steering column brace.
  7. Remove the nuts and bolts joining the cross vehicle beam to the front of the dash. Remove the cross vehicle beam from the vehicle. See Figure. Remove the floor air duct from the HVAC module. Remove the air distribution duct.
  8. Remove the daytime running lights sensor wiring harness clip from the HVAC module assembly. Disconnect the I/P lamp dimmer switch electrical connector. Remove the wiring harness clips from the HVAC module assembly bracket.
  9. Disconnect the vacuum source hose from the vacuum tank. Disconnect the blower motor resistor electrical connector. Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector.
  10. Disconnect the temperature actuator electrical connector. Remove the HVAC module assembly. See Figure.
