DTC P1554: Cruise Control Signal Status Failure To Powertrain Control Module (5.7L Engine): Testing

  1. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform CRUISE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, monitor Powertrain Control Module (PCM) information for DTC P1585. If DTC P1585 is not set with P1554, go to next step. If DTC P1585 is set with P1554, repair DTC P1585 first. Perform DTC P1585: CRUISE INHIBIT SIGNAL CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (5.7L ENGINE) .
  3. Using scan tool, monitor cruise requested display. If cruise requested display indicates NO, go to next step. If cruise requested display indicates YES, go to step  5.
  4. Review and record failure records information. Test drive vehicle within conditions of failure records. Using scan tool, monitor specific DTC information for DTC P1554, until test runs. If scan tool indicates DTC P1554 failed this ignition, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate DTC P1554 failed this ignition, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect cruise control module 10-pin harness connector. Cruise control module is located on left front frame rail, behind bumper. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, monitor cruise requested display. If cruise requested display indicates YES, go to next step. If cruise requested display indicates NO, go to step  7.
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect PCM 80-pin Red harness connector C2. PCM is located right side of engine compartment, near rear of wheelwell. Inspect White wire for a short to ground between ground and PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 13. See Figure. If a short to ground is not found, go to step  8. If a short to ground is found, repair White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  9.
  7. Replace cruise control module. After repair, go to step  9.
  8. Replace PCM. Program PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions for running DTC. If DTC resets, repeat test beginning at step  2.
