Test J: Abs Indicator Always On: Testing

  1. If ABS diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If ABS diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position for 5 seconds, then turn ignition switch to RUN position while observing ABS indicator. If ABS does not illuminate for 2 seconds, then turn off, go to next step. If ABS indicator illuminate for 2 seconds, then turn off, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) Natural 10-pin harness connector C1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If ABS indicator illuminates, go to next step. If ABS indicator does not illuminate, go to step  7 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Connect test light between IPC harness connector terminals A1 (Light Green wire) and B17 (Pink wire). See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  6 .
  5. Repair short to ground in Light Green wire between EBCM and IPC. After repair, go to step  8 .
  6. Replace IPC. After repair, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace EBCM. Perform tire size calibration procedure. See appropriate ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE & BRAKE PRESS in ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. After repair, go to next step.
  8. Turn ignition switch to OFF position for 5 seconds. Turn ignition switch to RUN position while observing ABS indicator. If ABS indicator illuminates for 2 seconds, then turns off, system is okay at this time. If ABS indicator does not illuminate or illuminates and remains on, go to step  3 .
