Description & Operation: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The A/C-heater system consists of refrigeration system, heater system, air distribution system, and mode/temperature control system. In automatic mode, system determines appropriate air intake location, air discharge location, fan speed, and discharge air temperature, based on selected temperature settings and information provided by the system's network of sensors. The sensors receive a 5-volt reference signal sent by a control module. The current passes through a thermistor or resistors inside the sensor and the drop in voltage signal is received by the control module providing sensor values.

The Instrument Panel Module (IPM) reads information from Ambient Air Temperature Sensor, Inside Air Temperature Sensor, Sunload Sensor, Lower Left/Right Air Temperature Sensors and Upper Left/Right Temperature Sensors. The Dash Integration Module (DIM) reads inputs from A/C refrigerant low temperature sensor and steering wheel temperature control switch. The DIM controls the Dual Zone Orifice Solenoid and A/C Compressor Clutch. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) reads inputs from Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor and A/C Pressure Sensor.
