Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Sonoma, 2003 GMC Jimmy, 2003 Chevrolet S10 Pickup, and 2003 Chevrolet Blazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Position the fender away from the vehicle in order to allow a clearance between the fender and the radiator support.
  2. Install the radiator support into the frame.

    Slide the right side of the support onto the frame. Pivot the left side of the support into place.

  3. Install the radiator support frame mounts.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the bolts through the frame mount.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the radiator support frame mount bolts to 70 N.m (52 lb ft).

  5. Install the bolts that retain the left wheel house panel to the fender. Refer to FENDER REPLACEMENT - FRONT .
  6. Install the bolts that retain the radiator support to the right and the left fender. Refer to FENDER REPLACEMENT - FRONT .

  7. Install the bolts that retain the radiator support to the right and the left wheel house panel. Refer to WHEELHOUSE PANEL REPLACEMENT  in Exterior Trim.
  8. Install the hood hold-open rod. Refer to HOOD HOLD-OPEN ROD REPLACEMENT .
  9. Install the radiator air intake baffle to the vehicle. Refer to AIR INTAKE BAFFLE REPLACEMENT - RADIATOR .
  10. Install the bolts that retain the battery tray to the radiator support bolts. Refer to BATTERY TRAY REPLACEMENT in Engine Electrical.
  11. Install the mega fuse cable and bracket to the radiator support.
  12. Install the air conditioning condenser, if equipped. Refer to CONDENSER REPLACEMENT in HVAC Systems-Manual.
  13. Install the fan shroud to the radiator support. Refer to FAN SHROUD REPLACEMENT in Engine Cooling.

  14. Install the forward lamp wiring harness to the radiator support.

  15. Install the ground screw terminals to the radiator support.
  16. Install the primary hood latch support. Refer to HOOD LATCH SUPPORT REPLACEMENT .
  17. Install the power steering cooler to the radiator support (if removed). Refer to POWER STEERING COOLER REPLACEMENT (2.2L) or POWER STEERING COOLER REPLACEMENT (4.3L) in Power Steering System.
  18. Connect the power steering hoses to the power steering cooler. Refer to POWER STEERING COOLER REPLACEMENT (2.2L) or POWER STEERING COOLER REPLACEMENT (4.3L) in Power Steering System.
  19. Raise the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE in General Information.

  20. Install the SIR discriminating sensors to the radiator support, if removed. Refer to FRONT END DISCRIMINATING SENSOR (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) in SIR.
  21. Connect the electrical connector to the SIR discriminating sensors.
  22. Connect the A/C evaporator line to the 2 brackets located at the bottom of the radiator support. Refer to EVAPORATOR TUBE REPLACEMENT (2.2L) or EVAPORATOR TUBE REPLACEMENT (4.3L) in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  23. Lower the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE in General Information.
  24. Install the hood release cable to the radiator support and the primary hood latch. Refer to HOOD LATCH RELEASE CABLE REPLACEMENT .
  25. Install the steering linkage shield. Refer to STEERING LINKAGE SHIELD REPLACEMENT in Steering Linkage (Non-Rack & Pinion).
  26. Install the headlamp assemblies. Refer to HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY OR HEADLAMP BULB AND/OR CORNERING, SIDEMARKER, PARK, TURN SIGNAL BULB REPLACEMENT in Lighting Systems.
  27. Install the bumper. Refer to IMPACT BAR REPLACEMENT -- FRONT BUMPER in Bumpers.
  28. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT in Engine Controls - 4.3L.
  29. Install the grille. Refer to GRILLE REPLACEMENT (GMC) or GRILLE REPLACEMENT (CHEVROLET) in Exterior Trim.
  30. Install the battery. Refer to BATTERY REPLACEMENT in Engine Electrical.
  31. Lower the hood.
  32. Inspect the latch. Adjust if necessary.
