Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the hinge to the endgate. Refer to Hinge Replacement - Endgate Lower - Endgate Side .
  2. Install the right side upper latch bracket assembly to the endgate. Refer to Latch Replacement - Endgate Right Upper .

  3. With an assistant, place the endgate (2) on the integral location pin (1) on the hinge.
  4. With an assistant, secure the right upper latch to the striker, ensuring the latch is fully latched.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  5. Install the lower hinge strap bolt (1) retaining body side hinge to the endgate hinge.

    Tighten:  Tighten the lower hinge strap bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the endgate harness. Refer to Wiring Harness Replacement - Endgate .
  7. Install the rear wiper motor. Refer to Wiper Motor Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer, Envoy) or Wiper Motor Replacement - Rear (XUV) in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  8. Install the endgate license plate pocket. Refer to License Plate Pocket Replacement (Envoy XUV)  or License Plate Pocket Replacement (All Except Envoy XUV) .
  9. Install the left lower endgate latch. Refer to Latch Replacement - Endgate Left Lower .
  10. Install the left upper endgate latch. Refer to Latch Replacement - Endgate Left Upper .
  11. Install the endgate window run channels. Refer to Window Run Channels Replacement - Endgate Lower .
  12. Install the endgate window regulator. Refer to Window Regulator Replacement - Endgate .
  13. Install the endgate window. Refer to Window Replacement - Endgate .
  14. Install the endgate window reveal molding. Refer to Molding Window Reveal Replacement - Endgate in Exterior Trim.
  15. Install the endgate window outer sealing strip. Refer to Sealing Strip Replacement - Endgate Window - Outer .
  16. Install the rear wiper arm. Refer to Wiper Arm Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer, Envoy) or Wiper Arm Replacement - Rear (XUV) in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  17. Install the endgate wedge assembly. Refer to Wedge Replacement - Endgate - Endgate Side .
  18. Install the inner panel reinforcement. Refer to Reinforcement Inner Panel Replacement - Endgate .
  19. Install the endgate control module. Refer to Module Rear Body Control Replacement - Endgate .
  20. Install the endgate torque rod. Refer to Torque Rod Replacement - Endgate .
  21. Carefully close the endgate, ensuring the latches are fully engaged.
  22. Perform an endgate window learn cycle. Refer to Window Learn Cycle - Endgate .
  23. Open the endgate (drop mode). Secure with the prop rod.

  24. Install the upper hinge strap screw (2) retaining the body side hinge to the endgate side hinge.

    Tighten:  Tighten the upper hinge strap screw to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  25. Install the bolt (1) retaining the hinge assemblies to the endgate.

    Tighten:  Tighten the hinge bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  26. Install the endgate support cable. Refer to Support Cable Replacement - Endgate .

  27. Install the endgate harness grommet (3) to the body.
  28. Install the bolt (2) retaining the endgate harness to the body.

    Tighten:  Tighten the endgate harness bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  29. Install the right rear tail lamp assembly. Refer to Tail Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  30. Inspect and adjust the endgate alignment. Refer to Endgate Adjustment .
  31. Inspect and adjust the endgate window. Refer to Window Adjustment - Endgate Cross Car  or Window Adjustment - Endgate Fore/Aft  and Window Adjustment - Endgate Up/Down .
  32. Adjust the endgate wedges. Refer to Wedge Replacement - Endgate - Endgate Side .
