Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 Oldsmobile Bravada, 2004 GMC Envoy XUV, 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 2004 GMC Envoy, and 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Install the liftgate to the vehicle with the aid of an assistant.
    2. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the liftgate hinge nuts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the liftgate hinge nuts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  3. Install the liftgate struts. Refer to Strut Replacement - Liftgate .
  4. Install the wire harness to the liftgate. Refer to Wiring Harness Replacement - Liftgate .
  5. Install the liftgate control module. Refer to Liftgate Control Module Replacement .
  6. Install the window wiper assembly. Refer to Washer Hose Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer, Envoy) or Washer Hose Replacement - Rear (XUV) in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  7. Install the window latch assembly. Refer to Latch Replacement - Liftgate Window .
  8. Install the lock cylinder. Refer to Lock Cylinder Replacement - Liftgate .
  9. Install the license plate pocket. Refer to License Plate Pocket Replacement (Envoy XUV)  or License Plate Pocket Replacement (All Except Envoy XUV) .

  10. Connect the rear windshield defogger electrical connectors (2).
  11. Connect the rear window washer fluid supply hose.
  12. Connect the CHMSL electrical connector behind the header panel.

  13. Install the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (TrailBlazer, Envoy, Bravada)  or Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL) .
  14. Install the liftgate window garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Rear Window in Interior Trim.
  15. Install the upper rear quarter trim, located above the tail lamp. Refer to Molding Replacement - Rear Panel in Exterior Trim.
  16. Install the liftgate window. Refer to Window Replacement - Liftgate .
