Circuit/System Testing

  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement .
  2. Disconnect the fuel injector.
  3. With the ignition ON, engine OFF, probe the ignition 1 voltage circuit of the fuel injector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground. The test lamp should illuminate.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the open or the high resistance in the ignition 1 voltage circuit.
  4. Connect the J 44603  into the fuel injector connector. See Special Tools . Start the engine.
    • If the test lamp flashes, test for an intermittent or a poor connection at the fuel injector or a faulty fuel injector.
    • If the test lamp does not flash, test for an open, high resistance or a short to voltage in the control circuit of the fuel injector, an intermittent or poor connection at the engine control module (ECM) or a faulty ECM.
    • If the test lamp remains illuminated at all times, test for a short to ground in the control circuit of the fuel injector or a faulty ECM.
