Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Buick LaCrosse and 2008 Buick Allure. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect connector X1 from the powertrain control module (PCM) terminal or engine control module (ECM). Disconnect connector X1 from the electronic brake control module (EBCM).
  2. Test for less than 5 ohms on the engine speed signal circuit, terminal 11 of the EBCM and ground.
    • If greater than the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 11 for a open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  3. Test for infinite resistance between the engine speed signal circuit terminal 11 of the EBCM and ground.
    • If not the specified value, test the engine speed signal circuit terminal 11 for a short to ground.
  4. Ignition ON, test for 2 volts on the engine speed signal circuit terminal 11 of the EBCM
    • If greater than the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 11 for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
