Front Disc Brake Hardware Replacement

WARNING: Refer to Brake Dust Warning .
CAUTION: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
1 Brake Caliper Guide Pin Bolt (Qty: 2)
CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .

Procedure

  1. Install an open end wrench to hold the brake caliper guide pin in line with the brake caliper while removing or installing the caliper guide pin bolt. DO NOT allow the open end wrench to come in contact with the brake caliper.
  2. If reusing the brake caliper guide pin bolt, prepare the guide pin bolt and the guide pin as follows:
    1. Thoroughly clean the threadlocker residue from the guide pin bolt threads with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    2. Thoroughly clean the threadlocker residue from the guide pin threads with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
  3. Apply high-temperature, high-strength threadlocker to 2/3 of the threaded length of the brake caliper guide pin bolt.

    Ensure there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the guide pin bolt.

  4. Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installing the guide pin bolts.

Tighten:  27 N.m (20 lb ft)

2 Front Brake Caliper

Procedure

  1. Do not disconnect the brake caliper hose.
  2. Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.
3 Brake Caliper Upper Guide Pin

Procedure

  1. The guide pins are not interchangeable. Note the location of the guide pins.
  2. Apply a small amount of high-temperature silicone grease to the guide pins.
4 Brake Caliper Lower Guide Pin

Procedure

  1. The guide pins are not interchangeable. Note the location of the guide pins.
  2. Apply a small amount of high-temperature silicone grease to the guide pins.
5 Brake Caliper Guide Pin Seal (Qty: 2)
Tip:  Ensure the lip of the seals are fully seated in the grooves of the guide pins.
