Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Pontiac Torrent and 2008 Chevrolet Equinox. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the video display.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 10 ohms between the video display ground circuit terminal 6 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, test for B+ between the voltage supply circuit terminal 7 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the B+ fuse is open, replace the video display.
  4. Radio ON, test for B+ between the video display enable circuit terminal 8 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the enable circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  5. Ignition ON, with a DMM, verify there is 100 to 300 Hz on the video mode signal circuit terminal 10.
    • If not within the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage, short to ground, or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  6. Verify there is 100 to 300 Hz on the video bright signal circuit terminal 9.
    • If not within the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage, short to ground, or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  7. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X3 harness connector at the radio.
  8. Test for good continuity between the DVD video signal circuit terminal 7 at the radio X3 harness connector and terminal 1 at the video display harness connector.
    • If good continuity is not present, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage, short to ground, or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  9. Test for good continuity between the DVD video signal circuit terminal 15 at the radio X3 harness connector and terminal 2 at the video display harness connector.
    • If good continuity is not present, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage, short to ground, or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  10. If all circuits test normal, replace the video display.
