1 Did you read the Keyless Entry Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2  Go to Keyless Entry System Description and Operation 
2 Press each button of the transmitter 1 at a time.
Does the system operate normally?		 Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections Go to Step 3 
3 Test the transmitter battery and replace if necessary. Refer to Transmitter Battery Replacement .
Press each button on the transmitter 1 at a time.
Does the system operate normally?		 Go to Step 21  Go to Step 4 
4 Lock and unlock the door locks using the controls inside the vehicle.
Do the locks operate properly?		 Go to Step 5  Go to Symptoms - Vehicle Access
5 Operate the hatch glass release from the control inside the vehicle.
Does the hatch glass release operate properly?		 Go to Step 6  Go to Diagnostic Starting Point - Fixed and Moveable Windows

IMPORTANT: Ensure that the keyless entry transmitter is the correct model for the vehicle remote system.
IMPORTANT: Failure to initiate the keyless diagnostics properly will result in a mis-diagnosis.
Perform the keyless transmitter diagnostics. To initiate the diagnostics:
  1. Close all doors.
  2. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and remove.
  3. Within 5 seconds, insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn ON the ignition and then turn it OFF and remove the key.
  4. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the ignition ON then OFF 9 times.
  5. Turn ON the ignition a final time.
The dome lamp will light for 0.25 seconds, extinguish for 0.25 seconds and then light for 0.5 seconds. This will confirm that the sequence was completed properly and remote control door lock receiver is in diagnostic mode.Did the dome lamp react as described?		 Go to Step 7  Go to Step 13 
7 Press the LOCK button and hold.
The dome lamp should blink once, pause for 0.5 seconds and repeat the sequence.
Did the dome lamp react as described?		 Go to Step 8  Go to Step 10 
8 Press the UNLOCK button and hold.
The dome lamp should blink twice, pause for 0.5 seconds and repeat the sequence.
Did the dome lamp react as described?		 Go to Step 9  Go to Step 10 
9 Press the HATCH button and hold.
The dome lamp should light for 0.5 seconds, pause for 0.5 seconds and repeat the sequence.
Did the dome lamp react as described?		 Go to Step 17  Go to Step 10 
10 Did the dome lamp light and remain lit as long as the button was pressed and extinguish when the button was released? Go to Step 11  Go to Step 12

  1. Program the transmitter. Refer to Transmitter Programming .
  2. After programming the transmitter, press each button 1 at a time.
Does the system operate normally?		 Go to Step 21  Go to Step 12

IMPORTANT: Diagnostics must still be active to perform this step.
  1. Obtain another transmitter from the same type vehicle.
  2. Press each button 1 at a time and hold momentarily.
Did the dome lamp light and remain lit as long as a button was pressed and extinguish when a button was released?		 Go to Step 18  Go to Step 13 
13 Test for battery positive voltage at the remote control door lock receiver. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 21  Go to Step 14 
14 Test the ground circuit of the remote control door lock receiver. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 21  Go to Step 15 
15 Test for an open or short to ground condition of the lock/unlock signal circuit between the remote control door lock receiver and the multifunction alarm module. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 21  Go to Step 16 
16 Inspect the harness connectors of the remote control door lock receiver. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 21  Go to Step 19 
17 Inspect the harness connectors of the multifunction alarm module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 21  Go to Step 20

IMPORTANT: After replacing the transmitter, perform the transmitter programming procedure. Refer to Transmitter Programming .
Replace the transmitter.Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 21  -

IMPORTANT: When replacing the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR), perform the transmitter programming procedure. Refer to Transmitter Programming .
Replace the remote control door lock receiver. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement .Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 21  -
20 Replace the multifunction alarm module. Refer to Multifunction Alarm Module Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 21  -
21 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?		 System OK Go to Step 3
