Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Cadillac DTS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Visually inspect the yaw rate sensor/lateral accelerometer for proper and secure mounting.
    • If the sensor is improperly secured, remove and properly install the sensor.
  2. Ignition OFF for 30 seconds, disconnect the harness connector at the yaw rate sensor/lateral accelerometer.
  3. Ignition OFF for 30 seconds, test for less than 15 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal 6 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  4. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the 5-volt reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
    • If less than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  5. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.
  6. Ignition ON, test for less than 1 volt between the following signal circuits and ground:
    • Yaw rate signal terminal 3
    • Lateral accelerometer signal terminal 2
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage.
  7. Test for less than infinite resistance between the following signal circuits and ground:
    • Yaw rate signal terminal 3
    • Lateral accelerometer signal terminal 2
    • If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
  8. Test for less than 2 ohms between the following signal circuit terminals:
    • Terminal 3 at the sensor harness connector and terminal 37 at the EBCM harness connector
    • Terminal 2 at the sensor harness connector and terminal 8 at the EBCM harness connector
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
  9. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the yaw rate sensor/lateral accelerometer. After replacement and programming, operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC and verify DTC C0186 00 does not set.
    • If the DTC sets, replace the EBCM.
