Installation Procedure

  1. Install the SDM (4) horizontally to the transmission tunnel, making sure the arrow on the SDM toward the front of the vehicle.
  2. Connect the SDM earth strap bolt (3).
  3. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  4. Install the SDM to transmission tunnel retaining nuts (5).

    Tighten:  Tighten the nuts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  5. Connect the SDM electrical connectors (1) and (2) from the SDM (4).
  6. Install the center console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  7. Return the driver and the passenger seats to the original position.
  8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  9. IMPORTANT: After programming the SDM, the SDM is then locked to the vehicle and it will not be possible to swap between other vehicles.
  10. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Programming and Setup .
  11. Program the new SDM primary key into the BCM.
    IMPORTANT: The AIR BAG indicator may remain ON after the SDM has been replaced. If the indicator remains ON after enabling the SIR system, perform the diagnostic system check and follow the steps thoroughly to ensure that the SDM is set properly.
