Engine Identification

The engine identification number is stamped on the front reinforcing rib in the top half of the crankcase. The first 3 digits in engine number identify type and model year. As well as the code listed below, manual transmission cars also use the code M28/43 in 1986 and M28/41 in 1987. Automatic transmission cars use M28/44 in 1986 and M28/42 in 1987.
