July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Code 12, Lateral Acceleration Sensor (Short Or Open Circuit)

  1. Unplug lateral (side-to-side) acceleration sensor. With ignition on, check for 5-volt reference voltage between pins No. 1 (-) and 3 (+). If voltage is not present, check wiring back to pins No. 9 (-) and 15 (+) at ABS/AWD control unit.
  2. Check for a short circuit to ground or an open circuit between pin No. 2 of sensor connector and pin No. 34 of ABS/AWD control unit wiring harness. Repair circuit as necessary.
  3. Reconnect lateral acceleration sensor. Connect ABS-2 LED Tester Adapter Cable (KDAS 0003/7) to ABS/AWD control unit wiring harness. Connect Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) to sockets "B" and "C". Voltage readings should be as specified in the AXIAL & LATERAL ACCELERATION SENSORS  test. Repair circuit as necessary.
