Instructions For Disassembly And Assembly: Disassembly
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
The differential does not have to be removed in order to take out the gear set. Removal is necessary only in order to determine which deviation "r" is given on the crown wheel. This deviation is necessary if the transmission housing or tapered roller bearing for the output shaft is replaced.
- Clamp the transmission in the assembly support using the special tool 9589 or VW 540 and drain off the gear oil.
- Pull the clutch release lever off the ball journal and remove with the release bearing.
- Pull the ball bearing for the input shaft out of the transmission housing using the special tools V.A.G. 1582 and V.A.G. 1582/2.
