Fuel Pump Delivery Pressure
- Turn ignition on. Pinch off fuel return line, and check line pressure (do not allow pressure to rise above 87 psi (6.1 kg/cm2 ). When line is plugged, there should be an immediate rise in line pressure.
- If line pressure does not increase, check for the following problems:
- Less than 11.5 volts across pump terminals.
- Obstructed fuel lines.
- Clogged fuel filter.
- Inoperative pressure reducing pump valve (replace pump if defective).
- Fuel filter installed backward.NOTE: If fuel filter has been installed backward, it must be replaced.
- After checking fuel pump pressure, turn ignition off. Go to FUEL PUMP DELIVERY FLOW test procedure (do not disconnect pressure gauge).
