Temperature Sensor Test

  1. Unplug sensor wiring connector at sensor. Set ohmmeter to 20K scale. Connect ohmmeter across sensor terminals. With coolant at 32°F (0°C), resistance should be 5800 ohms. With coolant about 68°F (20°C), resistance should be about 2600 ohms. Set ohmmeter to 2K scale. With coolant at 212°F (100°C), resistance should be 180 ohms.
NOTE: Ignition must be off when connecting or disconnecting the ECU. Remove wiring harness connector from ECU prior to testing. Always probe from rear of connector to avoid enlarging connector pin holes.
  2. Reconnect sensor wiring connector. Disconnect ECU harness connector from ECU. Repeat temperature sensor test. Readings should be the same.
NOTE: If temperature sensor is replaced, proceed to FUEL INJECTION BASE LINE adjustment.
