Throttle Position Sensor

  1. Connect ISAT Scan tester according to manufacturer's instructions. Diagnostic connector is under right front seat, protected by a plastic cover. Turn ignition on. Enter command code 279. With accelerator pedal in idle position, tester should display 80000. Tester should display 80085 with pedal in full throttle position. If not okay, go to step 2).
  2. Turn ignition off. Unplug connector from throttle position sensor, located on throttle body. Connect ohmmeter to terminals No. 1 and No. 3 on sensor. At idle position, resistance should be 2600-3000 ohms. Resistance should be 1100-1500 ohms at full throttle. Replace throttle position sensor if resistance is not within specifications.
  3. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between terminal No. 1 (Green/Red wire) of throttle position sensor harness connector and a good engine ground. If voltage is not 5 volts, check Green/Red wire between harness connector and ECU pin No. 10 for opens or shorts to ground.
  4. Turn ignition off. Check for continuity between terminal No. 2 (Black/White wire) of throttle position harness connector and a good ground. Repair Black/White wire if there is no continuity.
  5. Reconnect wiring to sensor. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between sensor terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and a good ground. At idle position, voltage should be about 0.2 volt.
  6. Measure voltage between sensor terminal No. 2 (Black wire) and a good ground. With accelerator pedal in full throttle position, voltage should be about 4 volts. Replace throttle position sensor if voltage or resistance is not within specifications.
