Section 3 (Engine Controls - System/Component Tests): Introduction
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1992 Saab 9000 and 1992 Saab 900. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Before testing separate components or systems, perform procedures in BASIC TESTING article. Since many computer controlled and monitored components set a trouble code if they malfunction, also perform procedures in G - TESTS W/ CODES article.
NOTE:
Testing of individual components does not isolate possible shorts or opens. Unless stated otherwise in testing procedures, perform all voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
Manufacturer recommends that trouble codes be retrieved, and diagnostic command codes be entered, with an ISAT Scan tester, a proprietary device available from manufacturer.
