Mass Airflow Sensor Burn-Off Function
- With mass airflow sensor disconnected from air cleaner but wiring still attached, start engine and warm it to 158°F (70°C). Let engine idle. Increase engine speed to 2500 RPM, release throttle, and again let engine idle.
- Turn engine off. After 4 seconds, filament should glow brightly for about one second. If filament does not glow, turn engine off and unplug mass airflow sensor connector.
- With ignition on, check for battery voltage between harness connector pin No. 5 (Brown/White wire) and ground. If battery voltage does not exist, repair Brown/White wire from pin No. 5 to pin No. 87B (Brown/White wire) of system main relay.
- Turn ignition off. Check for continuity between harness connector terminal No. 1 and ground. If no continuity exists, repair Black wire between pin No. 1 and ground terminal on intake manifold.
- If malfunction persists, temporarily install a known good mass air-flow sensor. Clear codes and drive vehicle. If code appears again, reinstall original mass airflow sensor and temporarily substitute known good ECM. Retest system.
