Gearshift Linkage
- Shift transmission into 4th gear. Remove plastic plug on transmission and insert Locking Dowel (87 92 335) so 4th gear is locked. Ensure locking dowel ring is at top. Remove gear shift boot and check if locking dowel can be inserted into hole in gear lever housing. Ensure locking dowel ring is down in hole. See Fig 1 . If locking dowel cannot be inserted, go to next step and adjust gear position. Remove locking dowels if no adjustment is necessary.
- Remove clamp holding gear rod in transmission linkage. Ensure gear lever is in 4th gear. Position locking dowel in gear lever housing. Ensure locking dowel ring is down in hole. Working from above, tighten nut on clamp joint which holds selector shaft in selector shaft universal joint on transmission.
- Remove locking dowel from transmission and install NEW plastic plug. Remove locking dowel from gear lever housing and reinstall mounting frame and shift lever boot. Test by operating shift lever.
