Positive Rectifier Diodes

  1. Connect negative terminal of ohmmeter or self-powered test light (40-volt maximum) to alternator B+ terminal. Measure resistance or continuity between terminal B+ and each diode stator terminal, one at a time, with stator leads disconnected. See Fig 1. Test light should glow or ohmmeter should indicate low resistance when positive terminal of test light or ohmmeter is connected to each diode terminal.
  2. Reverse ohmmeter or test light connections, and repeat each measurement. Test light should not glow or ohmmeter should indicate high resistance. Replace rectifier assembly if any diode is defective.
