Lubricating System
The mode of operation of the gearbox lubricating system is such that the crown wheel, together with the gear wheels on the 1st and 2nd gears, splash oil into a number of strategically placed oil pockets in the gear case. (When the car and, therefore, the crown wheel are stationary, the 1st gear wheel manages this task on its own). From these oil pockets, oil ways go to central channels in the input and output shafts. From here, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th bearings receive oil through the holes drilled in each central channel. 1st and 2nd gear wheels have plain bearings on the output shaft. 3rd, 4th and 5th pinions have needle bearings on the input shaft.
To increase the effect, the gearbox has a low oil level. Oil splash is also avoided.
The reverse gear has its own lubricating system. The 1st pinion splashes oil into a collecting pocket in the wall of the clutch housing. This oil is guided into the collecting pocket by an oil guidance plate on the reverse gear lever. From this collecting pocket, the oil proceeds through the reverse gear shaft and out through the shaft's 3 radial lubricating holes. This ensures lubrication of the reverse gear's PTFE bushes, axial bearings, synchromesh and brass bushing.
