NOTE: This is a special Update to supplement SERVICE STALL SYSTEM (SSS)/SCAN TOOL UPDATE 1.00 dated December 1998 and 1.00A dated January 1999.

1992, & 1996-99 Saturn Models.

TIS 2000 APPLICATIONS

SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM (SPS)

  1. With the release of Saturn SSS software version 1.0, Saturn retailers do not have the ability to effectively program 1992 model year PCM's. If a PCM recalibration is performed using the TIS 2000 application, vehicle functions may be affected, including but not limited to; air conditioning clutch inoperative when A/C is selected. Until updated software has been received, please do not attempt to program any 1992 model year vehicles. In the event that a PCM replacement is needed (i.e., vehicle inoperative) contact Technical Assistance at 800-8282112, Prompt 1, for further instructions.
  2. If a "Reprogramming Error!" message is received while attempting to program a 1996 - 1999 PCM, technicians should refer to the following instructions to reprogram the PCM, based on when the message is received:

MESSAGE RECEIVED WITHOUT ANY PROGRESS BARS DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN

  1. Verify that red programming adapter is connected to the DLC and voltage at pin 6 of the DLC is approximately 16v after pressing "Retry". Contact the Saturn help desk at 1-800-7SATURN, prompt #4, if 16 volts is not present.
  2. Press "Retry". If still unsuccessful,
  3. Turn ignition "OFF" and Tech 2 "OFF."
  4. Remove "PCMB" fuse for l 5 seconds and reinstall.
  5. Reboot the Service Stall.
  6. Turn ignition and Tech 2 "ON."
  7. Program PCM using the normal process.

MESSAGE RECEIVED WITH PROGRESS BARS DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN

CAUTION: Removing battery voltage from the PCM WITH PROGRESS BARS DISPLAYED will cause permanent damage to the PCM and will necessitate replacement.
  1. Press "Retry" (progress bars will be erased).
  2. If error message returns, the PCM may be locked in a "download" mode and will require a separate recovery procedure.

Both of the conditions identified above will be addressed with the next software release (Version 1.01), expected to be mailed to all retailers in mid-February.
