Transaxle Disassembly
- Remove clutch fork and bearing assembly. Remove shift control housing. Remove rear cover and vehicle speed sensor. Lock transaxle into 2 gears with shift forks. Remove input and output shaft nuts.
- Remove thrust washer, reverse brake cone and reverse synchronizer ring. Remove and discard 5th-reverse fork retaining clip. Remove 5th-reverse shift fork, 5th-reverse synchronizer sleeve, 5th-reverse hub, synchronizer assembly and 5th drive gear. Remove 5th gear bearing assembly. Remove 5th-reverse synchronizer. - If 5th-reverse hub is a press fit on input shaft, install Shaft Protector (SA9211T-3) on end of input shaft with counter bore of protector over input shaft. Using 5th drive Gear Puller (SA9211T-2) on input shaft, engage puller legs under 5th drive gear and remove 5th drive gear along with 5th-reverse hub.
- Place shaft protector tool will go over output shaft. Remove 5th driven gear by following procedure in step 3
. Remove case-to-clutch housing bolts. With snap ring pliers, spread input and output shaft bearing snap rings to allow snap ring grooves to drop below snap rings. Pry case from clutch housing using pry slots. See Fig 1

- Remove left axle seal snap ring and remove left axle seal. See AXLE SEALS
. Remove differential selective snap ring from case. Remove oil flow tube. See Figure
. Remove and discard 5th-reverse shift fork retaining clip. Remove 5th-reverse shift fork. Remove shift fork shaft, then remove 1-2 and 3-4 shift forks and remove 5th-reverse actuator. See Fig 2

- Remove reverse shift lever bolts and remove reverse idler gear assembly. Remove reverse idler gear shaft. See Figure
. Carefully lift input and output shafts from clutch housing at same time. Lift differential out of bottom case half. See Fig 4
. Remove transaxle magnet.
