Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Saturn LW300, 2001 Saturn L300, 2000 Saturn LW2, and 2000 Saturn LS2. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is part of electronic throttle control system. Instead of cable linking accelerator pedal to throttle butterfly, APP sensor sends desired throttle position to ECM. ECM then commands throttle motor to move butterfly to specified position. APP system incorporates 2 independent potentiometers. One is redundant in order to diagnose and, if necessary, act as back-up to first APP sensor. APP sensors No. 1 and No. 2 are serviced as a single unit. APP sensor communicates desired vehicle speed to ECM when cruise control system is engaged.
