Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Perform Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system check. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Using scan tool, ensure BCM is in programming mode. Attempt to program RKE transmitters, ensuring buttons are pressed firmly. See PROGRAMMING  . If transmitters can be programmed, system is okay. If transmitters cannot be programmed, go to next step.
  2. Check operation of door switches. If both driver and passenger door switches operate correctly, go to next step. If both driver and passenger door switches do not operate correctly, remove and inspect BODY fuse located in right instrument panel fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, replace fuse. Check for short to ground in Orange wire between instrument panel fuse block and power window switches. If Orange wire is okay, see POWER DISTRIBUTION article for other possible short circuits. Repeat REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  3. Check for an open circuit or short to ground in Orange wire between right instrument panel fuse block and underhood fuse block. Check RT IP BATT fuse (30-amp) and replace as necessary. Install BODY fuse. Repeat REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  4. Using scan tool, monitor receipt of transmitter message. If scan tool shows receipt of transmitter message, problem is intermittent. Repeat REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If scan tool does not show receipt of transmitter message, check battery in transmitter. Check for signal interference from anonymous radio transmissions. If battery is okay and no problem was found, replace BCM. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. Repeat REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
