Installation Procedure

- Align the wheels straight ahead.
- Center the SIR coil assembly (1), if needed. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Install the existing SIR coil assembly (4) to the steering shaft assembly (2) following these steps:
- Position the SIR coil assembly (4) to the steering shaft assembly (2).
- Align the opening in the SIR coil assembly (4) with the horn tower and the locating bump between the 2 tabs on the lock housing cover and sleeve assembly.
- Seat the SIR coil assembly (4) onto the steering shaft assembly (2).
- Install a new SIR coil assembly (4) to the steering shaft assembly (2) following these steps:
- Assemble the pre-centered SIR coil assembly (4) to the steering shaft assembly (2).
- Position the SIR coil assembly (4) to the steering shaft assembly (2).
- Align the opening in the SIR coil assembly (4) with the horn tower and the locating bump between the 2 tabs on the lock housing cover and sleeve assembly.
- Remove and discard the centering tab.
- Install the retaining ring (3) to the steering shaft assembly (2).
- Route the lower coil wire harness along the steering column.
- Install the steering wheel column wire harness (1) to the wire harness straps (2).
- Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Remove the upper and lower shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement (Telescoping) or Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement (Manual) in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Install the SIR system. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement .
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 .
IMPORTANT:
Center the SIR coil assembly before installation.
