Gear Switches

Gear switches (shift solenoid valves) are located inside automatic transmission. Switches may be normally open or closed, and change status depending upon internal hydraulic pressures. High gear switch information is used by ECM in controlling emission components and engagement of Torque Converter Clutch (TCC). See ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION  under TRANSMISSION.
