Scan Tool Data Definitions (Cruise Control)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Saturn Ion Red Line, 2004 Saturn Ion 3, 2004 Saturn Ion 2, and 2004 Saturn Ion 1. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Scan Tool Data Definitions contains a brief description of all cruise control related parameters available on the scan tool. On vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine, a powertrain control module (PCM) is used. On vehicles equipped with a 2.2L engine, an engine control module (ECM) is used.

C/C Clutch-High Volt

The ECM continuously monitors the Cruise Control Servo Clutch Control circuit for a short to voltage when the clutch is commanded On. If the ECM detects a short to Voltage C/C Clutch-High Volt test will display Test Fail.

C/C Clutch-Low Volt

The ECM continuously monitors the Cruise Control Servo Clutch Control circuit for a short to ground when the clutch is commanded off. If the ECM detects a short to ground C/C Clutch-Low Volt test will display Test Fail.

C/C Clutch-Open

The ECM continuously monitors the Cruise Control Servo Clutch Control circuit for a open circuit when the clutch is commanded Off. If the ECM detects a short to ground C/C Clutch-Open test will display Test Fail.

C/C Dir. Ckt.-High Volt

The ECM continuously monitors the Cruise Control Servo Move Direction Signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the ECM detects a short to voltage C/C Move Ckt.-High Volt test will display Test Fail.

C/C Dir. Ckt.-Low Volt

The ECM continuously monitors the Cruise Control Servo Move Direction Signal circuit for a short to ground. If the ECM detects a short to ground, C/C Dir. Ckt.-Low Volt test will display Test Fail.

C/C Dir. Ckt.-Open

The ECM continuously monitors the Cruise Control Servo Move Direction Signal circuit for a open circuit. If the ECM detects a open circuit, C/C Move Ckt.-Open test will display Test Fail.

C/C Move Ckt.-High Volt

The ECM continuously monitors the Cruise Control Servo Move Signal circuit for a short to voltage when the circuit is commanded low. If the ECM detects a short to ground, C/C Move Ckt.-High Volt test will display Test Fail.

C/C Move Ckt.-Low Volt

The ECM continuously monitors the Cruise Control Servo Move Signal circuit for a short to ground when the circuit is commanded high (WOT). If the ECM detects a short to ground, C/C Move Ckt.-Low Volt test will display Test Fail.

C/C Move Ckt.-Open

The ECM continuously monitors the Cruise Control Servo Move Signal circuit for a open circuit when the circuit is commanded low. If the ECM detects a open circuit the, C/C Move Ckt.-Open test will display Test Fail.

Clutch Pedal Switch

The scan tool displays Applied or Released. The PCM monitors the clutch pedal position (CPP) switch signal circuit. An open switch is displayed as Applied.

Cruise Brake Switch

Displays Released or Applied. The cruise brake switch is a normally closed switch that indicates the brake pedal position. When the brake pedal is released there is ignition voltage present on the TCC Brake Switch/Cruise Control Release Signal.

Cruise Control Active

The scan tool displays Yes or No. The PCM determines the current status of cruise control operation. An active cruise control system is displayed as Yes.

Cruise Clutch Command

Displays On or Off. Indicates the commanded state Cruise Control Servo Clutch Control circuit. When the clutch is commanded On, Cruise Control Servo Clutch Control circuit is pulled low.

Cruise Delta

Displays the difference between the cruise control set speed and the actual vehicle speed.

Cruise Direction Command

Displays Idle or WOT. When the Cruise Control Servo Direction Signal circuit is commanded high, cruise direction is towards WOT. When the Cruise Control Servo Direction Signal is commanded low, cruise direction is towards Idle.

Cruise Disengage (1 - 8) History

The scan tool displays the last 8 reasons why the cruise control system was disengaged. Refer to the Scan Tool Data Definitions (Disengaged History) for descriptions.

Cruise in Released State

Displays No or Yes. If cruise is engaged and regulating vehicle speed the parameter displays Yes.

Cruise On/Off Switch

The scan tool displays On or Off. The PCM the monitors the cruise control on switch signal circuit. A closed switch is displayed as On.

Cruise Move Command

Displays On or Off. This parameter displays on when the ECM is commanding the cruise control module to increase or decrease throttle angle. The Cruise Control Servo Move Signal circuit is a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal and the duty cycle controls the amount of movement.

Cruise Resume/Accel

Displays On or Off. Indicates the status of the cruise resume/accel switch. Displays On when the cruise resume/accel switch is being depressed.

Cruise Resume/Accel. Switch

The scan tool displays On or Off. The PCM the monitors the cruise control s resume/accel switch signal circuit. A closed switch is displayed as On. The cruise control On/Off switch must be switched On in order to correctly view the Cruise Resume/Accel. Switch parameter.

Cruise Set/Coast

Displays On or Off. Indicates the status of the cruise set coast switch. Displays On when the cruise set/coast switch is being depressed.

Cruise Set/Coast Switch

The scan tool displays On or Off. The PCM the monitors the cruise control set/coast switch signal circuit. A closed switch is displayed as On. The cruise control On/Off switch must be switched On in order to correctly view the Cruise Set/Coast Switch parameter.

Cruise Switch

Displays On or Off. Indicates the status of the cruise control On/Off switch.

Cruise Switch Voltage

Displays the voltage at the ECM on the Cruise Control Set/Coast and Resume/Accelerate Switch Signal circuit.

Cruise Vehicle Set Speed

Displays the vehicle speed at which the driver set the cruise control speed.

Engine Speed

The scan tool displays 0 to 9,999 RPM. The ECM/PCM monitors the crankshaft position (CKP) signal circuit in order to determine the engine RPM.

M/T Clutch Disengage

Displays No or Yes. If the clutch pedal is depressed, this Scan tool parameter will display Yes.

Stoplamp Pedal Switch

The scan tool displays Applied or Released. The PCM monitors the stop lamp switch signal circuit. A closed switch is displayed as Applied.

Stop Lamp Switch

Displays Released or Applied. The stop lamp switch is a normally open switch that indicated the brake pedal position and is hard wired to the stop lamps. When the brake pedal is released there is no voltage on the signal circuit.

Traction Control Status

The scan tool displays Active or Inactive. When the PCM receives a class 2 signal from the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) requesting a traction control related function, the scan tool displays Active.

Vehicle Speed Sensor

The scan tool displays 0 to 150 km/h (93.2 mph). The PCM monitors the vehicle speed sensor signal circuit in order to calculate the vehicle speed for display.
