Circuit/System Testing

  1. Verify that the IMT valve position sensor is properly attached and tightened at the intake manifold.
  2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the IMT valve position sensor.
  3. Ignition OFF for 90 seconds, test for less than 5 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  4. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the 5-volt reference circuit terminal 3 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  5. Test for less than 0.10 volt between the signal circuit terminal 1 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  6. Ignition OFF for 90 seconds, test for greater than 80k ohms between the signal circuit terminal 1 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  7. Disconnect the ECM.
  8. Test for less than 5 ohms between the signal circuit terminal 1 and the ECM connector X1, terminal 7.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a high resistance.
  9. If the circuits test normal, replace the IMT valve position sensor.
